I just took my final rehearsal with a bunch of singers who will be standing on THIS STAGE next weekend, whilst singing Messiah, along with 400 other people who will have travelled from all 4 corners of N.America plus some other international bods.
This will mark the 3rd time in 18 months that Katterwall (and therefore, me) will have prepared singers to perform in New York, and it's still quite a thing. That we can be practicing 8,000 miles away and through the ingenuity of a company called Distinguished Concerts International New York (DCINY) can join a mighty company of singers to put on a polished and well attended show in the Big Apple, in one of the world's most famous venues. I honestly think it would take a good long time for that to become passe.
I travelled to NY for our first foray over there and it was really quite something. I'm not a huge fan of singing in massive groups - but to be on stage at the Avery Fisher Hall, Lincoln Center (sic) alongside 300 other women was a not-to-be-forgetten moment. The acoustics alone made it worth the trip! (plus the really, really good pizza).
I am SO blown away by the dedication (of both time and finances) of so many of our singers, prepared to commit to a project like this. Although I can't be with them this time round, I am hopeful there will be more international sojourns that I can join in on next time!
