I have the lucky job of working with this lovely bunch of people every Tuesday lunchtime. HSBC 's staff choir has been going for 15 months now and they are such a great group! They work their socks off, chuck themselves in and get incredible results, all things considered (these are not time-rich people). Today they performed as part of HSBC's Community Festival on Chater Road. The sun shone, the crowds came and they did a tremendous job. It is such a pleasure to see the bene
I just took my final rehearsal with a bunch of singers who will be standing on THIS STAGE next weekend, whilst singing Messiah, along with 400 other people who will have travelled from all 4 corners of N.America plus some other international bods. This will mark the 3rd time in 18 months that Katterwall (and therefore, me) will have prepared singers to perform in New York, and it's still quite a thing. That we can be practicing 8,000 miles away and through the ingenuity of a
This album is a '21st Century One I Missed'. Why is it on my list? Two main reasons: 1) A friend I once went on a cricket tour with spoke of them very highly and 2) A student shared their 'Take Me Out Tonight' video as part of a Play & Tell for a course I taught last year and it completely blew me away:
I've been putting off writing this blog entry. I've listened to Jethro Tull's (or 'Tull' as I've discovered they are called to those in the know) "Thick As A Brick" pretty much back to back for at least two weeks now and I like it. I am sure that the fault is entirely mine but I'
I've been invited to judge a few music competitions over the years. I love it. Which is bizarre, since they are about as far removed from my comfort zone as a performer as I can get... I don't think I can think of anything worse, to be honest. However, as a judge I'm not only 'safe' I'm also in a position to be able to give the sort of useful feedback, smiling face and positive support that I would wish for, were I to be the brave soul on the stage (and oh my god are they bra
I've had 2 occassions to use online design websites recently. I used 99designs.com to launch a competition to design Kassia's new logo and had 60 or so designers from all the over world submitting their ideas (think I got around 270 ideas in the end) which I whittled down to 6 (that was tough), and then ran a poll amongst choir members and friends to get their feedback, which genuinely helped me come to my final design. What a great service! What an incredible idea! I finally
